Their Fair Trade meal was developed in association with Stamford's Fair Trade Town group. The students researched suppliers of fair trade and sustainable produce and local suppliers. Fairtrade is about better prices, decent working conditions, local sustainability, and fair terms of trade for farmers and workers in the developing world. The Stamford Fairtrade steering group is trying to increase awareness of these issues and the number of consumers and businesses buying and selling Fairtrade products.
The menu was based on the recipes from the International Traditional Recipe Exchange contributed by VET students and trainees from Poland, Portugal and Spain as well as the UK. This was one of the most successful and collaborative of the VESURT training activities.

The students thanked UnivegUK, and Stamford allotments for their kind donation of fruit and vegetables, key link for donating the fair trade chocolate, Direct Seafoods for donating the sustainable fish and a special thanks to Mary Cade for all her hard work in organising this event and donating the beans, pumpkin, cider and apples. The income from the meal was donated to Stamford Foodbank - Feeding people in crisis:13 million people live below the poverty line in the UK. The Foodbank provides a minimum of 3 days emergency food and support to local people in crisis.
